As the mid-Summer months hit, bird-lovers in Malta have the opportunity to see hundreds of Scopoli's Shearwater birds around Malta's sea, before they nest at Ta Cenc in Gozo.

BirdLife Malta's Arcipelagu Garnija Project team take the public out to sea at sunset to enjoy spectacular views, and to spot the island's birds. Around 3% of the global Scopoli's Shearwater population make Malta their home. Hundreds of these birds gather at sea at dusk during their peak breeding season, in June and July. At night they fly to their burrows at the Ta'Cenc cliffs.

BirdLife Malta organised two boat trips to see the birds thus far, with another two planned for Friday 26th and Saturday 27th July. The 26th July trip departs from Gozo's Mgarr harbour at 7pm while the 27th July trip departs from the Marfa Jetty. The 26th Gozo trip will, however, instead start from the Marfa Jetty if the trip is not fully-booked.
