A new football pitch at the Oratorju Qalb ta' Ġesu in Mosta was inaugurated on Thursday evening.
The project is the result of a joint collaboration between the Malta Football Association, who financed the works related to the installation of the artificial turf pitch, the Mosta Parish Church and Mosta Gunners Amateur Sports Club.
"The promotion of football at all levels is very important," Malta FA President Bjorn Vassallo said.
"Today we are celebrating the inauguration of this facility which is part of the life of the local community. It is a place where children, youths and also over-35 players come to enjoy playing football and share their experiences."
The ancillary works included the removal of two layers of artificial turf, a new lighting system and the building of a new clubhouse while the dressing room facilities have also been renovated.
The Malta FA's support for this project also has tangible benefits for amateur football as the six-a-side pitch at the Oratorju Qalb ta' Ġesu will host matches from the Masters Football Malta championship from this season.
Malta FA President Vassallo and Francis Muscat, Secretary of Mosta Gunners ASC, unveiled a commemorative plaque in the presence of Fr Sebastian Caruana, the Archpriest of Mosta.
The inauguration of the new pitch was followed by a series of fun games for children and their parents.
