Shooting: 473 athletes from 76 nations participating in the ISSF World Cup in Lahti, Finland

473 athletes from 76 nations are participating in the ISSF World Cup - Lahti, FIN.

They will all compete for the medals and two Quota Places for 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in each in the 4 individual events as well as for the valuable points that will determine those qualified for the 2019 World Cup Final.

The first Final was in the Trap Women event and it was held on Friday, August 16, 2019. The Gold medal was won by SMITH Penny (AUS) followed by MAKELA-NUMMELA Satu (FIN) and SCANLAN Laetisha (AUS).

On just his sixth International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) attempt in the Trap Men event, the Maltese Athlete, CHETCUTI William (MLT), managed to position himself amongst the top World Athletes in this Discipline.

Up until the fourth and penultimate qualification round CHETCUTI was sharing first place on points with LOEW Andreas (GER) and ILNAM Yavuz (TUR). He was only second to LOEW according the countback rule. This had put him in a favourable spot to qualify for the finals, however, in the fifth and last round he only managed 21/25 as he missed his tenth target and three other targets form the last five for a total score of 116/125. This result was only one target away from a shoot-off for the Final Stages. The Maltese Champion ended his competition in position 11 out of 157 Trap Men Athletes.

The overall winner of the Trap Men event was ALIPOV Alexey (RUS) the Silver medal was taken by AZEVEDO Joao (POR) while the Bronze medal was won DE FILIPPIS Mauro (ITA).

The other Maltese athletes participating in the Trap Men event were GALEA Brian (MLT) who managed 107/125 and VELLA Stephen (MLT) who scored 99/125.

On Sunday August 18, 2019 the Trap Mixed Team event will take place. The next Final will be in the Skeet Women event and it will be on Wednesday August 21, the Skeet Men Final will follow on Thursday August 22, 2019.
