Euro 2020: Malta squad arrives in Oslo

The Malta football national team arrived in Oslo on Tuesday afternoon ahead of Thursday's clash with Norway at the Ullevaal Stadium, a match valid for the Euro 2020 qualifiers.

Rain greeted the Malta team as more wet conditions are expected in the coming days. On arrival the Malta squad had the first training session in Oslo, ahead of Wednesday's final training spin at the Ullevaal Stadium.

This will be Malta's fifth game in these qualifiers, after the victory against Faroe Islands in the opener at Ta' Qali, and three defeats against Spain, Romania and Sweden. After the game in Oslo the Maltese led by manager Ray Farrugia will travel to Bucharest to face Romania in Ploesti on Sunday.

Malta faced Norway ten times in the past obtaining only two draws against eight defeats, scoring three goals and suffering 26. The first match played was a friendly one in November 1961 and Malta obtained its' first draw 1-1, against the Scandinavians. The second draw, another 1-1, was obtained in February 1990 in a Rothmans Tournament match.
Norway with five points so far in the group, will be searching victory at all cost against malta, ahead of their important clash against Sweden in Stockholm on Sunday, which may prove to be decisive.

The full Malta squad that made the trip to Oslo is the following: 

Goalkeepers: Henry Bonello (Valletta); Justin Haber (Gżira United); Andrew Hogg (Birkirkara).

Defenders: Andrei Agius, Ferdinando Apap, Joseph Mbong (all Hibernians); Steve Borg, Joseph Zerafa (both Valletta); Karl Micallef (Ħamrun Spartans); Zach Muscat (US Pistoiese, Italy); Jurgen Pisani (Floriana); Dexter Xuereb (Mosta).

Midfielders: Triston Caruana (Ħamrun Spartans); Juan Corbalan (Gżira United); Paul Fenech (Balzan); Luke Gambin (Colchester United, England); Jake Grech, Dunstan Vella (both Hibernians); Nikolai Muscat (Gżira United); Rowen Muscat (Valletta).

Forwards: Alfred Effiong (Balzan); Jean Paul Farrugia (Sliema Wanderers); Kyrian Nwoko (Valletta).
