The ball is in your court, Delia tells PM on alleged misuse of MFSA funds

The ball is now in the PM's court with regard to allegations made by former justice minister on the "misuse" of funds at the financial services watchdog, Opposition Leader Adrian Delia said today.

Last week, Joe Brincat, an MFSA board member, sent a judicial letter to the authority's CEO over a golden handshake allegedly given to an employee, saying that the payment was a breach of the rule of law that brought shame upon the government's administration of the country.

The MFSA was recently criticised after another official was given a hefty retirement sum before joining an entity that until recently formed part of the MFSA.

When asked about this on Friday, Finance Minister Edward Scicluna said the MFSA did not fall under his ministry. The Authority fall under the responsibility of the Office of the Prime Minister.

In a tweet, Delia told Joseph Muscat that his ex-deputy leader "is intimating serious abuse, contempt of Parliament and criminal offense at the highest levels at MFSA. Your Finance Minister passed on the baton to you. The ball is now in your court."
