Neptunes WSPC held their start of year training camp overseas under the leadership of Neptunes head coach Roland Eskudt. Mr Eskudt was assisted by Neptunes coach Carl Henderiksson. The 14 day training camp was held in Lloret de Mar, Spain between 7th September and 21st September. Swimmers trained in the indoor pool of Lloret de Mar which offered all the necessary facilities for the training camp to be a success. A total of 16 Neptunes swimmers aged between 11 and 18 years of age attended the training camp.

The training camp formed part of the pre-season preparations for the 2019/2020 swimming season. The Neptunes swimmers underwent 70 hours of training spread over the 14 day period where the swimmers trained, rested and ate in line with training sessions offered to top swimmers across Europe. Training consisted of two swimming sessions per day and also included land, core and gym sessions.

Mr Roland Eskudt was extremely satisfied with the training camp where he confirmed that the swimmers trained with dedication and this augurs well for the upcoming season. Mr Eskudt, who has been the Neptunes Head coach for the past 24 months, insisted he is working on a long term plan for Neptunes swimmers and is striving to raise the level of swimming and ensure better results will come. Mr Eskudt indicated he is eyeing for positive results in both local and international swimming events in the upcoming years. He is working with the different swim squads within Neptunes structure to ensure that swimmers remain focused, train at a high level and to keep swimmers in the sport and improve their performance over a stipulated timeframe. Furthermore, Mr Eskudt will be assisted by Gail Rizzo as she returns to the pool deck for the 2019/2020 season.

Neptunes have confirmed that more training camps at this level are planned together with international swimming meets. Neptunes are firm believers that offering opportunities to race and train abroad will help nourish the upcoming swimmers and help drive their passion to obtain higher results for the Maltese swimming community.
