Parents of children who attend the Santa Teresa School in St Venera have offered to clean up and repair what they describe as “disgusting classrooms” over the weekend, but the answer was no.

A mother of a girl who started attending Kinder 1 at the school has taken to social media to say that her super excitement at the thought of her daughter starting school quickly turned into disappointment and concern when they saw the classroom.

Parents who were invited to the school on the first day of the scholastic year immediately had the impression that “the teacher did not want to show it to us,” but upon their insistence they were allowed in.

“When we walked in the smell of mold ‘welcomed’ us all! We were shocked, also the smell from the toilet was like something died inside,” the mother wrote, uploading photos.

“My question is how can anyone let any children in to this disease chamber?!? It is a health hazard.”

“We went to complain to the principal, and what hit me was she mentioned that the mold is coming from the ground and it is a humidity issue which cannot easily be fixed, yet HER OFFICE is lovely and refurbished on the same level as the disgusting classrooms”.

The parents have written to Education Minister to complain.

“Also, just to mention we offered to come at the weekend and fix the classroom ourselves with our own money, as we are desperate for our kids to be in safe and healthy environment, but we were told no from the beginning.”
