Dennis Mercieca and Sue Abela were crowned BOV National Senior Champions.

Mercieca and Abela took an early lead on the first day of the three day tournament and both averaged well over 200 per game to emerge worthy winners of the title. This was Abela’s third win from as many attempts, while Mercieca obtained his first success in the 4 editions he has participated in to date.

National champion Sue Abela continued to increase the gap to finish with an excellent 206 average over 18 games to retain her crown.

The battle for second place between Liliana Spiteri and Josephine Borg was a very tight one right down to the last throw, with both ending up with the same identical total after 18 games. However, Spiteri was awarded second place due to her higher last game compared to Borg.

The men’s section was much tighter. Going into the third and last day of competition, Mercieca had a considerable lead over Mark Spiteri, who recently won the Bronze Medal winner at the Seniors World Cup and 3rd placed Kenneth Arpa. The two crept closer to Mercieca who had an uncharacteristically low 137 game. However Mercieca rallied back with 2 final games over 200 to emerge a comfortable winner in these BOV National Seniors Championships. 4th place went to Giancarlo Tolu.  The top 4 men will go on to represent Malta in the 2020 European Seniors Championships.

Ernest Agius, Chief Officer at Bank of Valletta presented the trophies to the winners. Bank of Valletta is a major supporter of sporting initiatives in Malta and a partner of the Malta Ten Pin Bowling Association.
