PS Farrugia Portelli raises breach of privilege case against Jason Azzopardi

Parliamentary Secretary Julia Farrugia Portelli has raised a breach of privilege complaint against Nationalist MP Jason Azzopardi regarding a post he made on his Facebook page.

In Friday’s parliamentary sitting, she claimed that what Azzopardi wrote in the post was a “false statement”.

Azzopardi wrote that it is a “heresy” that a junior minister invites someone to break the law, whatever that law is. How can we expect people to abide by the law if the government invites you to break it, he added.

The post was in relation to what Farrugia Portelli had said in Parliament in an earlier sitting about the use of cannabis.

PN Deputy Leader David Agius requested a clarification as to what the PS was referring to, with Acting Speaker Claudette Buttigieg saying Farrugia Portelli was clear that her reference was to the Facebook post and not to a journalistic report.

The Acting Speaker said she is to consider the request and deliver her ruling later.
