Luxol back on top and an impressive come back for Swieqi United
On Friday night Luxol took the Elite sole leadership as they won 6-4 the direct encounter against Valletta. It was an entertaining match for those futsal lovers present at the National Sport School Pavillion.
Luxol's captain Mark Zammit had a reason to celebrate, as he scored twice and reached the 100th goal with his club. The remaining goals were scored by Giancarlo Sammut, Carl Azzopardi, Marwan Telisi and Everton Veve.
Valletta reduced the gap through Dusan Rakic's brace and a goal apiece for George Frendo and Mohammed Lamari.
On Wednesday came the first seasonal win of 8-5 for Swieqi United as they crossed swords with the University of Malta Futsal Team (UM).
Halftime score was a 3-3 stalemate with the Universitarians having the better opening manufacturing an early two goal lead through Melvin Borg and Ivan Jovanovic before the Serbian got sent off late in the game.
However Swieqi's resilience soon reaped rewards overturning the result with three goals in four minutes through Firas Aboulezz, Spanish Sergio Gonzales Morales and Aaron Montebello.
Before the interval Melvin Borg scored his second to make it 3-3 at the interval.
In the second period two goals in quick succesion through Rodney Debono and Aboulezz gave Swieqi a comfortable edge before a UM comeback this time with Christian Wismayer and debutant Swiss player Gabriel Buckson who levelled the score once again to make it 5-5.
However the last few seconds were a black-out for UM allowing their opponents to impressively score three times in the last 100 seconds of the match through keeper Clyde Aquilina, second goal for Sergio Gonzalez Morales, and a hat-trick for Swieqi's talisman Firas Aboulezz.
