The woman who created Topo Gigio, the puppet who entertained millions of adults and youngsters alike, died in her home in Milan on Thursday, Italian media report.

Maria Perego, 95, had created the puppet for Italian TV station Rai in 1959, and was behind its “movements” right from the very first show.

Topo Gigio took part in several TV shows such as Canzonissima.
