PN Gozo spokesman suggests extra day of leave for Gozitans trapped in Malta

Nationalist Party spokesman Chris Said is suggesting that Gozitan workers who were trapped in Malta on Tuesday should be given an additional day of leave over and above their yearly allotment.

On Tuesday, the suspension of the Gozo ferry service because of the rough seas left Gozitan workers stranded in Malta – and Maltese workers trapped in Gozo – forcing the Gozo Ministry to find hotels at reduced rates where they could spend the right. Gozo Minister Justyne Caruana said that receipts of the overnight stay should be kept for the workers to be compensated.

Chris Said went one further, saying that those who were stranded in Malta should be given an extra day of leave. He said that the government will not find it difficult to do so for workers it employs and others who worked with government entities. The government should then compensate private entities who offer this extra day of leave to its Gozitan workers.

He said that there are Gozitan children who did not find their mother or father home when they returned from school on Tuesday. He appealed to the unions to also put pressure on the government.

Said did not propose anything for Maltese workers who were trapped in Gozo for the same reason.
