Waterpolo club San Giljan ASC has expressed itself in favour of a jetty and ferry services to be located next to the club premises in Gorg Borg Olivier Street in St Julian’s.

The club said that after discussions held with the operator, it was understood that this is a temporary measure until the club is given full permission to construct its own pool and premises.

Once the construction of pool and deck is completed, the boat will land by the side of the pool. “We are assured that there is very little inconvenience for the club members using the facility until the time the new pool is constructed,” the club said. .

San Giljan ASC said it is one of the main clubs in Malta and is still without its own facilities such as the one which is 100 metres away, constructed in water and close to what was a sandy bay, the club said, referring to its rivals Neptunes WPC.

The club is also noting that some opposition is now not against the project but the place of landing, with some wanting it to be nearer to them and away from San Giljan ASC, thus giving indication that this opposition is merely so the benefit of this project is taken away from the club, members and its athletes and channelled to someone else.

The opposition to the project is also surprising considering that the boats that will be used on this service are state of the art latest technology, with low emissions and pollution to the area, in contrast to boats in use today.

The club expressed its full support to this project, one which started from an idea of the club and which is not exclusive to one operator.

San Giljan ASC said that, while respecting the full application process and its obligations, the club will not be hindered in its objective to have its own premises with full training facilities so that it can continue to provide our children a place where they can train. With the popularity that the sport is attracting, there need to be more facilities available where the sport can be practiced.
