The ‘middleman’ who is seeking a presidential pardon in exchange for information related to the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia has been discharged from hospital, sources said.

He had been admitted to hospital earlier after complaining of chest pains and was being held at Mater Dei Hospital's Cardiac Unit.

The man was taken ill on Friday morning at the police headquarters in Floriana.

The Malta Independent is informed that he will remain under police protection.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said that he had signed a letter offering a recommendation for a presidential pardon to a man who was arrested last week in connection with investigations into a money laundering case.

Muscat said the man sought immunity which however will only be afforded if the information given is corroborated in court. The man, through his lawyers, is seeking a blanket immunity for all crimes committed.

This morning, PM Muscat confirmed that the middleman had been taken to hospital. "I have been informed that there isn't anything major," the PM said without providing more information.
