Labour Party urges supporters not to attend any unofficial events

Tuesday, 3 December 2019, 10:55 Last update: about 5 years ago

The Labour Party is urging its supporters not to attend any unofficial events being organized by individuals.

Supporters were being urged to attend a rally in front of the Office of the Prime Minister on Tuesday evening. The event is being organized by the same person who organized Monday's rally in front of the Labour headquarters. Thousands of supporters attended the event, and carcades were seen in the Hamrun area after it ended. Journalists, including from The Malta Independent, were harassed during the rally.

The event came under fire by many who said that it had only served to increase tensions. Political commentators said the PL should ensure that no other rallies are held.

One News has quoted a Labour Party spokesperson saying that the party was not organizing any activities on Tuesday. It urged people to stay home and not attend any unofficial events.

One News said the PL has also been urging its supporters "not to fall for provocation" and appealing for calm.

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said on the Labour party media that he will be meeting people at official Sunday events, which will be held in various localities.
