People want Labour government to wake up from coma – Evarist Bartolo

Tuesday, 10 December 2019, 07:03 Last update: about 5 years ago

People would like to see the Labour government wake up from the coma and start leading the country again, Education Minister Evarist Bartolo writes this morning.

Over the past three weeks the country has been practically reduced to a standstill as the nation is gripped by developments in the investigation into the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia. Constituted bodies have expressed their concern that there is a negative effect on the country's economy, and the Prime Minister has son far refused to step down, postponing his resignation to January.

In a Facebook post, Bartolo said Maltese families want to pass Christmas and start the New Year in serenity and peace, and want to see the Labour government reduce the tension that has gripped the country and give them peace of mind and a normal life.

He quotes from a letter he receives in which the writer said it important that when things change, they really do. The change has to cover also organisations and government institutions for a new approach to be taken even in the way people are employed to man them.

It is useless speaking of good governance if this is not implemented. One has to see that the checks and balances function properly. This silent revolution needs to take place while economic development continues unabated, Bartolo wrote.
