Justin Caruana Scicluna delivered a stunning performance throughout the tournament to emerge a worthy winner. After qualifying in 4th place behind Dennis Mercieca, Matthew Magro and Damian Pisani, Caruana Scicluna powered through to 1st place in the round robin with a record 242 average over 5 games, losing only one game to Magro in the process.
Magro finished in 2nd place ahead of Mercieca, and defeated him in the semi final to face Caruana Scicluna in a pulsating final. In form Magro shot a brilliant 276 against Caruana Scicluna's 228 in the first game, forcing the 2nd game. This was a nail biting race till the last frame, with Magro needing 3 strikes to force a roll off. However, he only managed the first one, conceding the game 245 -258. Matthew Howard and Mark Spiteri finished in 5th and 6th position respectively from 33 competors.
In the ladies competition Cynthia Frendo Duca had qualified in 3rd place behind Sue Abela and Sarah Xuereb.
She then won 4 out of 5 matches in the round robin to qualify for the finals in 1st place, ahead of Abela and Tiziana Carannante. Carannante maneged to get the better of Abela in a tight semi final (188-183) to go on to face Frendo Duca.
Carannante managed to overcome Frendo Duca in game 1(173-177) but then Frendo Duca overcame Carannante in the decider to claim victory. Joanna Attard, Sara Xuereb and Melissa Swift finished in 4th , 5th and 6th respectively.
