Fearne, Abela now admitting that things could have been done differently – Delia

Saturday, 14 December 2019, 11:50 Last update: about 5 years ago

Opposition Leader Adrian Delia this morning said that the two contenders for the Labour Party leadership are now speaking differently when compared to what they were saying just two weeks ago.

For years, both Chris Fearne, as deputy prime minister, and Robert Abela, as legal adviser, sat side by side with Joseph Muscat and defended all his decisions. Now that the PM will be resigning after his office was linked to the murder of a journalist they are both saying that things could have been done differently.

Fearne and Abela are now saying that the police commissioner should be one for the whole country, but they had never said anything when the police had for years failed to investigate people close to the Prime Minister.

Speaking on the Nationalist Party’s radio station, Delia said that both Fearne and Abela had shown blind faith in Joseph Muscat but, now that he will be moving aside, they are conveniently saying that they want things to change so as to avoid the mistakes that were committed by his administration.

Delia said that the institutions that the country built over 55 years since independence were demolished by this government. He said that some people first hijacked the Labour Party, then hijacked the government, and worked solely for their own interests.

Our country’s forefathers never anticipated that the corridors of government would have been infiltrated by people with criminal links. The country now needs to make sure that what happened under Muscat’s watch will never be repeated.

Delia said the Nationalist Party had prepared a list of proposals via which there will be better checks and balances of the country’s institutions.
