Gżira and Sliema residents are upset about concrete walls which have been erected along the promenade in preparation for the construction of a lido.
In the early stages of the construction phase, the promenade has been divided and blocked off by large concrete walls, leaving only a small, uneven and cracked pavement for pedestrians to walk on.
The lido in question was approved back in 2016. The Planning Board had unanimously approved planning permission for the construction of a 2,200 square metre lido along the promenade of Triq ix-Xatt, Gżira.
The project, which entails the reclamation of land, will see the construction of an outdoor swimming pool, a sun deck, two restaurants, changing rooms and toilets, and a recreational play area for public use.
The approved application is a scaled-down version of that originally applied for in 2006, parts of which would have obscured views of the sea along the promenade.
Meanwhile, residents were also angered after a video posted on social media showed that construction dust was polluting the bay in the vicinity of the project.
