Over 70,000 Maltese and tourists gathered together for the national celebration held at St George’s Square and along Republic Street in Valletta to welcome the beginning of the New Year.

“Yesterday’s attendance clearly shows that the Maltese public appreciates events which bring together top local artists to provide high quality entertainment for all the family. It is also important to remark that this national celebration has been constantly growing throughout the years, strengthening our cultural calendar and attracting not only a Maltese audience but also tourists who visit Malta at this time of the year”, said Minister for Justice, Culture and Local Government Owen Bonnici.

“New Year’s Eve celebrations in our capital city have become a staple event during the past couple of years, as they provide locals and visitors with a great opportunity to celebrate the welcoming of the new year whilst enjoying a reinvigorated Valletta, full of activities for all the family,” Minister Owen Bonnici said.

Yesterday’s concert at St George’s Square organised by the Valletta Cultural Agency under the Ministry for Justice, Culture and Local Government featured some of the very best of Malta’s local artists and was headlined by The Travellers. It also included DJ Drey, Ozzy Lino and the Candy Moths, Kevin Paul, Gaia Cauchi, and Kurt Calleja.
