Aaron Farrugia set to be named Minister for Planning, Environment; Schembri takes economy

Wednesday, 15 January 2020, 09:41 Last update: about 5 years ago

Aaron Farrugia is expected to be appointed Minister for Planning and the Environment, while Silvio Schembri is set to take over the economy ministry, sources told The Malta Independent.

These appointments are among the biggest changes that are likely to be announced this afternoon when Prime Minister Robert Abela announces his new Cabinet.

Farrugia will take the planning portfolio from Ian Borg, who will retain transport and infrastructure, and the environment from Jose Herrera.

Borg’s ministry will still be one of the biggest, as he will take over Special Projects from Konrad Mizzi, who resigned in November.

Schembri will also be responsible for trade and Air Malta.

Both were parliamentary secretaries under the Muscat administration.
