After outcry: Proposal to appoint Konrad Mizzi as Malta’s representative on OSCE withdrawn

Tuesday, 28 January 2020, 06:26 Last update: about 5 years ago

The government has withdrawn its proposal to name Konrad Mizzi as Malta’s representative on the OSCE and will be seeking legal advice on consultancy job he was given two weeks after resigning, the government said in a statement.

On Monday, the government had proposed Mizzi as Malta’s representative on the Organisation of Security and Cooperation in Europe, immediately drawing criticism.

It was later revealed that Mizzi had obtained an €80,000 consultancy job with the Malta Tourism Authority two weeks after he resigned as minister responsible for the authority.

The government said it is withdrawing the motion to propose Mizzi as head of the Maltese delegation at the OSCE and is seeking legal advice on the job Mizzi was given.

In its statement, the government said that Prime Minister Robert Abela will be giving absolute priority to good governance for the country to be able to carry out its work abroad effectively.
