Updated (2): Woman stabbed in Zabbar on Sunday dies, man to be charged with murder

A woman who was stabbed in Zabbar on Sunday night died in hospital on Monday evening, the police said. She was a mother of two.

The woman, Chantelle Chetcuti, aged 34, had been stabbed in the head by a man during an argument and was taken to hospital in critical condition.

The incident happened just outside the St Patrick's football club in Main Road, corner with Triq is-Santwarju at 8.15pm.

The argument between the two started inside the club and spilled onto the pavement.

The aggressor, a 33-year-old, left the scene of the incident but later gave himself up to the police.

He went to the police headquarters in Floriana, with his clothes covered in blood.

He was also found to be carrying what the police believe are illicit substances.

The man is set to be charged with the murder today at 12.30pm before Magistrate Charmaine Galea.

Both the aggressor and the woman, aged 34, are from Safi.

Magistrate Ian Farrugia is leading an inquiry.
