MEP Alex Agius Saliba has been elected Vice-President of the Hunting Intergroup of the European Parliament, a PL statement read.
"It's an honour and of great satisfaction that for the first time we will have a Maltese MEP serving as Vice-President of the European Parliament's Intergroup responsible for hunting and biodiversity," the PL said.
Over the past months, Agius Saliba was the first MEP on behalf of the Group of Socialists and Democrats who coordinated the official establishment of this Intergroup.
MEP Agius Saliba claimed that through this appointment, Malta will have a much stronger voice to protect the hobby of thousands of Maltese and Gozitans, a hobby that forms an integral part of our culture and tradition.
The European Parliament Hunting Intergroup was founded in 1985 and is one of the most active intergroups in the same Parliament. During this legislature, this Intergroup will gather 126MEPs. The European Association FACE brings together about 7 million enthusiasts from around 37 countries. This non-profit association is the largest organisation that represents hunters and trappers in the world.
"Alex Agius Saliba thanked both the Maltese Federation FKNK and the European Federation, for the trust they have always given him. He stated that as he had done since the first day he was elected, he will continue to be a strong voice for our country's hunters and trappers so they can continue to enjoy their hobby as well," the PL said.
