Kristy Debono announced her resignation from the post of president of the Nationalist Party general council, in what is a second major resignation announced today. Earlier, Robert Arrigo resigned as party deputy leader.
In a post on Facebook, Debono said that in the light of developments taking place, she was handing in her resignation to make space for others in the top positions of the party.
She said the party needs to unite and become strong again to become an alternative government, while opening doors to new ideas and people.
She published the letter she sent to the secretary general, Clyde Puli, saying that he resignation is with "immediate effect".
