In 2017, around 290,528 tonnes of waste were landfilled, according to the Minister of Environment Aaron Farrugia.

Farrugia was answering a Parliamentary Question by PN MP Jason Azzopardi, who asked how many tonnes of waste were landfilled in the years 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017.

Farrugia said that in 257,693 tonnes of waste were landfilled in 2014, with the amount increasing over the following years.

278,177 tonnes of waste were landfilled in 2015, 264,206 tonnes in 2016 and 290,528 tonnes in 2017.
