Civil Society activists have placed a banner dedicated to slain journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia in Triton Square, on the site where an exhibition in celebration of Women's Day sits.

The exhibition was opened last Friday, and celebrates the achievements of 12 Maltese women whose faces adorn the posters exhibited. Daphne Caruana Galizia was not one of the women chosen.

In a statement today, Repubblika said that on Women's Day it is important to remember someone who is considered to be an international hero in investigative journalism.

"Daphne was a person whose journalism was appreciated, recognised and awarded in all parts of the world, but unfortunately not in our own country."

The NGO spoke of the journalist's work in pushing forward the rule of law, and holding those in power accountable for their actions.

The NGO said that as a woman and a mother, Daphne Caruana Galizia had to pass through unjust experiences for many years, "but nothing made her give up as her main aim was for the country not to be overcome by corruption and criminality."

"This is why she is the only person who deserves the title 'Invicta'".

"She came out the winner over the government's corruption and scandals."

The NGO criticised the organisers of the exhibition for not including the murdered journalist, saying that it is evidence of how they are trying to make people forget about her.

"She dedicated so many years, gave her blood and her life to make Malta better," the activists said.
