The Maltese authorities have denied entry to a cruise liner carrying a passenger with Coronavirus-like symptoms.

A Cypriot official had been quoted as saying that the Marco Polo, which is registered in the Bahamas, was sailing towards Malta. The vessel is currently in the eastern Mediterranean.

Transport Minister Ian Borg said the vessel would not be allowed to enter Malta.

One of the passengers onboard the ship is complaining of symptoms similar to those of the Covid-19.

Cyprus had allowed the ship to anchor offshore but denied disembarkation for the passengers and crew.

According to reports, most of the 1,000 or so passengers are Italian.
