86 people who filed domestic violence reports in January and February of this year had suffered slight injuries, while seven has suffered grievous injuries, according to data tabled in Parliament.
The information was tabled by Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri, in reply to a parliamentary question by MP Marlene Farrugia.
In 2020, there was also one domestic abuse-related homicide.
In 2019, there were 579 reports of slight injuries, 33 reports of grievous injuries and 2 homicides.
The previous year, 624 domestic abuse victims reported slight injuries and 35 reported grievous injuries. There were 4 homicides.
593 people who reported domestic violence suffered grievous injuries, while 36 reported grievous injuries.
Camilleri said that in cases of domestic violence reports, the person responsible is always be investigated by police and taken to court if there is sufficient evidence.
