Hospital asset

Sunday, 22 March 2020, 06:29 Last update: about 7 years ago

I have been admitted to hospital, not for virus treatment but for something else. I obviously would not have chosen this time to be in hospital, but that was not in my power to choose.

I was taken to emergency by ambulance, very apprehensive as to the prospects of my hospital stay.

My attitude changed not long after going in. These people, our care workers, give one the impression they are the employees of a health resort. They seem not to know there is this killer virus around, they smile, they go out of their way to help, they try to meet all their patients' requests, and at emergency the demand on them is heavy.

They are the hospital's best asset. I do not know if they are aware, but their quiet way of going about their tasks, not showing any concern about the obvious dangers invading their place of work, is a source of courage to their patients.

Thank you hospital staff, you all are an inspiration, and we are in your debt.
