As the Coronavirus continues to have a significant effect on our way of life, more and more people are starting to work from home.
From lawyers, to accountants, gaming employees to other office-related jobs, many businesses and firms have set in place a plan for some, if not all, to work from home. Indeed this is not to mention the many who are unable to work right now due to decisions, in the interest of the country’s health, by the authorities.
But the idea of having to work from home, or even having to stay home in order to minimise the spread of the virus, has with it certain challenges, certain issues that perhaps most of us never thought we would have.
First of all, those people who live alone will face loneliness issues. It is extremely important to keep in touch with friends and loved ones online. That way, one can to a certain extent avoid the feeling of isolation.
Another issue will be, of course, eating habits. This will tie hand-in-hand with exercise issues given that gyms are shut down.
As such, many might decide to go the easy route and eat microwave meals, binge on snacks, or cook unbalanced and unhealthy meals, which could also be triggered by the sense of sadness and loneliness some might be feeling given that they are, for the most part, stuck indoors.
This will be an issue that each and every one of us must overcome. One can exercise indoors. Indeed, there are many exercises one can do that do not require gym equipment.
In terms of eating habits, people need to be aware of what they are eating and try to minimise the intake of unhealthy foods.
A particular issue for those living in apartments is their neighbours. It is important for those who live in flats to respect their neighbours and not make too much noise during the night. Respect for neighbours is imperative, and tempers are sure to flare as time goes on.
Working from home also results in a lack of camaraderie, as workers will not be working sideby-side with their peers in the same office or workspace, but individually. This could lead to teamwork issues as well, which will be an important step to overcome if a company whose workers are working from home wants such plans to be successfully implemented. Group chat software in such situations is a must, as are file-sharing systems.
Many are staying home with their loved ones. This could be a great opportunity to bond with children and partners, but this could also create certain issues if a couple, for instance, is not used to spending every waking moment together. In such circumstances, perhaps finding indoor activities such as watching films or playing board games could help keep everyone inside the home entertained.
While some might not be feeling it yet, working from home will take its toll both mentally and physically. Everyone must do their part to make this work for the time being, keep healthy and find a rhythm with which they can continue to live life in these circumstances.
