Quarantrain.org: Promoting daily online support on exercise and activities

Thursday, 2 April 2020, 15:17 Last update: about 5 years ago

The University of Malta's Department of Physiotherapy was one of a group of core educational institutions asked to collaborate on quarantrain.org, a newly-launched international platform.

The aim of this platform is to promote good (physical) health during these challenging times with the COVID-19 pandemic via daily online support and timely information on exercise and everyday activities.

The official launch of the platform, the brainchild of a group of physio educators and students from Nijmegen University, took place at noon on Thursday 2 April.

The group of 3rd year undergraduate students involved from the University of Malta are Karen Stoner, Nicole Chircop, Kelly Fenech, Bernard von Brockdorff, Daryl Azzopardi and Sophie Camilleri. Together with their tutor, they are working on programme content and video creation to promote exercise as a vehicle to address mental wellbeing and good breathing techniques.

"I must say I'm very proud of the students' response to the call for their involvement and of their level of engagement. It is, and shall keep on being an invaluable learning experience for the whole team as we engage in cross-cultural activities aimed at the well-being of the global population. It is a perfect example of how, in times of adversity such as this one we are all going through, we are able to rise up to the challenge, see opportunity in difficulty, and develop it", commented Dr John Xerri De Caro, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Physiotherapy within the Faculty of Health Sciences, and tutor of these students.

Individuals who would like to contribute to this student-led initiative are encouraged to get in touch via the platform's Contact Page
