Thursday, 2 April 2020, 09:24 Last update: about 5 years ago

33 musicians and 12 soloists from the St Paul Metropolitan Orchestra'came together individually' during the #stayhome period due to COVID19.

They did so remotely using their smartphones. NO they did not chat. They played the Maltese National Anthem as a prayer for our islands to stay strong and as a tribute to all those involved to keep us safe during this difficult period, particularly Profs CharmaineGauci and her team, Mater Dei's Hospital administration, consultants, paramedics, doctors, nurses, medical students, the Police Corps, the Armed Forces of Malta, the Civil Protection Department,  Parish priests and clergy, the Public Cleansing Department, and various other entities and NGOs.

Each musician and singer played his or her part at home, then all videos were painstakingly joined together. No professional equipment was used and a large number of volunteers made the syncing process a very lengthy one.

The most emotional part of the editing process was listening to the videos altogether. Individually, some made non-musical sense but together our National Anthem sounded complete. It took several days to create but it is a little effort compared to what our heroes in blue and many others are doing for the nation.
