One swimmer was saved another is missing at the Coral Lagoon, and a search has been mounted, the police said.

Footage sent to The Malta Independent shows a helicopter hovering in the Ahrax tal-Mellieha area as personnel from the AFM, police and the Civil Protection Department search for the missing swimmer.

An AFM vessel is also helping with the search at sea.

The police were informed about the incident at around 4.30pm.

In a statement, the police said the two swimmers are from Bangladesh, with the one who was saved aged 21 while the missing swimmer is 29 years old. They were in the company of another two persons.

One of the swimmers managed to make it ashore but, as at 7.30pm, the other swimmer was still missing.
