Prof. Ian Refalo has been named as president of the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST), the government said in a statement.
Refalo is a professor of public law and served as dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Malta for several years.
He has practised law for 40 years and worked in the fields of human rights, civil, commercial and administrative law, and was the leading lawyer in a number of high-profile cases.
He worked as a lawyer at the European Court of Human Rights and the European Court of Justice.
Education Minister Owen Bonnici said that Refalo’s appointment will serve to enrich the work being carried out at the college.
The government thanked Frederick Schembri who served in the post for two years and Professor Mark Borg who served as acting president in the last few days.
