Thank you from Nagpur

Sunday, 17 May 2020, 09:00 Last update: about 5 years ago

We would like to express our thanks and gratitude to the Council and members of the Grand Commandery of the Castello, a jurisdiction of the Military and Hospitaller Order of St Lazarus of Jerusalem, for their recent donation of €20,000.

This incredible donation is for the purchase and maintenance of another ambulance for the charity Women in Need (Win), a UK-registered women's charity operating in central India.  Win provides support to society's most vulnerable women, including those suffering from leprosy.

Based at Castello Lanzun in Mensija, San Gwann, the Grand Commandery of the Castello (VO/1558), has been supporting Win for the last 10 years. Indeed, their first donation was for an ambulance, which still operates today as a mobile primary health care service in the impoverished areas outside Nagpur city.

While India is in lockdown due to the Coronavirus, the first ambulance, which the Grand Commandery had donated to Win is permitted to deliver essential supplies of food and medicines to women and children in the poorest parts of the city. The new ambulance will be a much-needed addition to our mobile health care service.

We wouldn't be able to do all this if it wasn't for the Grand Commandery's continued support.
