Transport vehicles and other equipment used by a logistics company was destroyed this afternoon in a fire in Zebbug.

The storage yard, with several trailers, forklifters and other equipment, belongs to Attrans Limited.

The fire broke out just after 2pm in the yard in Mdina Road and the cloud of black smoke could be visible from many localities.

The police said that flammable material, including tyres and fuel tanks, caught fire. Many vehicles were destroyed.

It took 10 fire trucks, three private water bowsers, 24 firefighters and eight volunteers for the blaze to be brought under control.

Firefighters also used foam.

People on site said that they heard at least three explosions. 

The road was temporarily closed to traffic in the direction of Qormi, as traffic piled up in the roads in the vicinity.
