Virus cases nearing 10 million, deaths close to half million

The number of Coronavirus cases around the world is nearing 10 million, while the number of deaths will soon reach the half million mark.

Statistics compiled by the Johns Hopkins University show that, at as 7am Friday, the number of cases registered across the world was 9,609,829, with the number of deaths reaching 489,312.

The country with the highest number of cases is the United States, with 2,422,299, followed by Brazil with 1,228,114, Russia 613,148, India 490,401 and the United Kingdom 309,455.

With regard to deaths, the highest number was registered in the US, with 124,410, followed by Brazil with 54,971, UK 43,314, Italy 34,678 and France 29,755.

Unil yesterday, Malta had 668 cases with nine deaths.
