A container truck overturned on the Marsa-Hamrun bypass on Monday afternoon.
The truck, usually used to transport goods from Sicily, came to a rest against the crash barrier. The accident took place close to the vehicle bridge in the area.
The driver, a 43-year-old man from Gzira, managed to climb out of the cabin unaided but was later taken to Mater Dei Hospital for ovservation.
According to reports, a considerable amount of diesel fuel spilled from the lorry's tank.
Police and Civil Protection personnel are on site. Part of the road has been closed.
