Eleven migrants were arrested on Monday after rioting at the Hal Far detention centre, the police said.

What seemed to be a pacific protest turned ugly as some damage was also reported, a police statement said.

District and immigration police, as well as members of the Rapid Intervention Unit were on site.

A number of ambulances were also present.

The police said that 11 of the migrants were arrested and taken to the police headquarters in Floriana for questioning.

They are expected to be arraigned in the coming days.

Nobody was hurt, the police said.
