Godfrey, Marlene Farrugia join PN MPs in ‘no confidence’ vote to Delia

Wednesday, 8 July 2020, 08:57 Last update: about 5 years ago

Godfrey and Marlene Farrugia have joined the 19 MPs who  gave a no confidence vote to Nationalist Party leader Adrian Delia, saying they should go immediately to the President to trigger a mechanism to have a new Opposition Leader.

In a vote taken last night by the PN parliamentary group which includes the two PN MEPs, Delia was given the thumbs down by 19 members of the group, while 11 voted in his favour. Delia has refused to step down saying he was elected by the party paid up members.

In a post on Facebook, both Farrugias – who were elected to Parliament as part of the PN-PD coalition but are now independent MPs – say the country needs a strong opposition to fight a government mired in corruption. There is no confidence in Delia, who does not have the credentials to offer a better government, they said.

They said that the PN MPs should go to the President to tell him officially that they no longer have trust in Delia as Opposition Leader.
