Delia intends to ‘drastically change’ shadow cabinet

Tuesday, 14 July 2020, 10:50 Last update: about 5 years ago

Opposition Leader Adrian Delia has said that he intends to drastically change the Opposition’s shadow cabinet during TVM’s programme Realtà.

17 MPs from the PN Parliamentary Group had said that they had lost confidence in Adrian Delia as Opposition Leader. The President on Monday reviewed the request to remove Delia, and while the President confirmed that Delia lost the trust of the majority of Opposition MPs, decided not to remove him from his post.

Delia said during the programme that his confidence in David Thake, Chris Said, Claudette Buttigieg and Therese Comodini Cachia can never be recovered.  The four were some of the MPs who moved against him, and Therese Comodini Cachia had the backing of the majority of PN MPs to be his replacement as Opposition leader.

Delia also made reference to the statement by the MPs who moved against him made after the President’s decision, stating that their decision shows a lack of respect towards the President, the Constitution, the PN Statute and party members. “They only respect themselves.”

Delia said he does not have confidence in those who do not have confidence in him, and said that in the coming days he will drastically change the PN’s shadow cabinet. He said he has sought unity for the past three years . Asked if the rebel MPs will be kept inside the PN, he said that they already took their decision, adding that their action intended to weaken the PN.
