Waterpolo, Enemed Cup: San Giljan and Sliema reach final

As expected San Giljan and Sliema will contest this year's Enemed final tomorrow after winning their semi-finals yesterday. San Giljan powered their way past Sirens in a one sided affair, whilst Sliema were made to fight harder by Exiles.

This semi-final was practically a no contest with San Giljan cruising through to the final with relative ease. Matthew and Dino Zammit were prolific, sharing twelve of San Giljan's 18-goal tally.

The match was over by the end of the first quarter with San Giljan taking a six-goal lead and with Matthew Zammit scoring the opening five goals. Dino Zammit made it 7-0 at the start of the second session with Riolo scoring Sirens first goal shortly afterwards. This session was more balanced but San Giljan were home and dry by the half way line with a 10-2 advantage.

San Giljan won the remaining two sessions with Dino Zammit catching up with Matthew Zammit on the six-goal mark.

Sliema had the better of Exiles in the second semi-final to book a place in the final against San Giljan. Sliema had a good start building a three goal-cushion in the first session, with Exiles failing to recover in the remaining quarters.

Gambin, Spiteri Staines and Brownrigg scored for Sliema in the first session taking advantage of their two men-up situations, with Exiles on the other hand failing to take advantage when Gambin was sent off.

In the second quarter Mark Fenech opened Exiles' account, but Sliema kept their three-goal lead with the second session finishing 2-2.

In the third quarter Sliema made the decisive push scoring three goals in succession with Exiles failing to take advantage from their men-up situations, scoring only once from three.

Sliema went for the last session with a five-goal lead with the last quarter resulting in a low scoring affair. Aurelien Cousin scored for Exiles and Bugelli scored Sliema's final goal with 32 seconds to go.
