“Adrian Delia is creating division within the Nationalist Party instead of shouldering responsibility and resigning quietly”, the PN rebel MPs have said in their latest statement against Delia’s leadership of the party.
In a statement from “the absolute majority of the PN’s parliamentary group”, the rebel members lamented that after the party’s executive committee lost faith in Delia, the leader’s reaction was to create more division instead of creating unity.
They noted that in recent days Delia had asked for disciplinary action against the PN’s youth wing for expressing their opinion; that he went on the national TV station and attacked a number of PN MPs; and that he use social media and PN media to threaten those who do not agree with him and to say that those who do not agree with him have no place within the PN.
The statement comes after the PN opened discipinary proceedings against the MZPN for publishing a statement calling for change in the party – apparently in breach of rule instituted by party secretary Francis Zammit Dimech, who instructed all branches and committees not to make public statements about the party situation.
“Adrian Delia’s attitude and behaviour are not worthy of the leader of the Nationalist Party”, the statement read.
“Adrian Delia is creating division within the Nationalist Party instead of shouldering responsibility and resigning quietly. For Adrian Delia, whoever dares to express an opinion different to his own has to be kicked out, threatened, and insulted”, they said.

They said that on the contrary to Delia, they wanted unity within the PN. They said that they want people with different ideas and characters to come together and to make the PN the strongest political force in the country.
They said that not only do they offer solidary and support to the youths within the PN, but they are publicly committing themselves so that when there is a change in the PN’s leadership, youths will be at the heart of the PN.
“We fully believe that the PN is currently at a crossroads”, they said before adding that there are two paths to choose from.
“Either it will have a party leader who united and makes the party a young and winning one, or it remains with a party leader who divides and wants to restrict the voice of the youths”, they said.
In the party and the country’s interest, they said that they will continue to work for a united PN which is led by people with integrity, seriousness, honesty, and credibility and which puts the national and party interest before their own personal interests, and which is chosen by the councillors and tesserati.
