16-year old starlet Haley Bugeja has signed with US Sassuolo in Italy after completing a medical on Tuesday.

Bugeja joins Sassuolo from Mgarr United only a day after she was named as the BOV Women’s League Best Player and the Women’s U-19 Best Player.

Bugeja has scored an astonishing 140 goals in 63 official games with Mgarr’s senior and youth squads – 73 of which came in 21 games last season.

She joins several other female Maltese players, such as Rachel Cuscheri and Emma Lipman, who ply their trade in Italy.

Bugeja is capped at senior level for Malta, with six appearances and two goals to her name.

Sassuolo play in Serie A – Italy’s top division – and were in 5th place out of 12 teams when the league was brought to a premature end due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
