Former Portuguese international goalkeeper Daniel Marcio Fernandes will join Tarxien Rainbows for the upcoming season in the BOV Premier League.
The transfer is a coup for the Rainbows, who were only saved from certain relegation from Malta’s top tier after a vote by the clubs in the country.
Fernandes is 36 years old and brings with him experiences from a raft of well-known clubs, including Greek giants PAOK, Dutch club Twente, and Romanian giants CFR Cluj.
Capped twice with the Portuguese national team, Fernandes was part of the 23-man squad selected for the 2010 World Cup – although he did not play in South Africa when the tournament came around.
He was most recently with Portuguese second-tier club Farense where he played 18 matches.
