Coronavirus: Another 40 cases takes total to 1,035; seven cases linked to Confirmation party

Another 40 Coronavirus cases were registered in Malta on Friday, taking the total to over 1,000, the health authorities said.

The new cases include six related to the language school cluster, four to the Paceville cluster, while seven are linked to a confirmation party.

There are also four cases of relatives of patients who had the virus in the past days and another two are imported. The rest of the cases are sporadic.

In all, the number of cases has jumped to 1,035 since the first case was registered on 7 March, with nine deaths.

There were no new recoveries on Friday, meaning that the number of recovered patients remains at 675 while the number of cases climbed to 351.

The health authorities said that 1,548 swab tests were carried out on Friday, for a total of 139,979.

The last seven days have been the worst week in terms of new cases, with 164 reported. Friday was the worst day with 49, which is just three cases short of the record of 52 reached on 7 April.
