A late goal by Matthew Zammit gave San Giljan a tight 9-8 win over Sliema.
It was a yo-yo affair, as San Giljan pulled ahead several times only for Sliema to draw level and nose ahead late in the third session. But San Giljan kept coming back and, after drawing at 8-8, Zammit took advantage of some confusing moments in front of the Sliema goal to net the winner.
Sliema protested with the officials but the goal stood.
The victory took San Giljan to the top of the group on maximum points.
In the other match, Marsaxlokk overcame Ta’ Xbiex 8-5.
