The Maltese footballing community is in mourning after the loss of nine-year-old Miguel Damato, who passed away from a permanent illness on Wednesday.
Damato was a player with the Birkirkara FC Youth Academy, who said on Wednesday that “it is with deep regret and profound sadness that we announce the passing away of one of our kids who has been attending our Academy for some years and who has been battling with a permanent illness for the last month – Miguel Damato.”
“We will always remember Miguel with that smile on his little face and the immense love to football. Miguel will be deeply missed. We extend our sincere condolences to his family”, the club said.
Puttinu Cares also mourned the loss: “Miguel you were an exceptional boy… educated, nice, smart, and determined. At nine years old you were already teaching us what love truly is. In a short time you left an impact on all those who knew you. With a sad heart we tell you to rest in peace and to pray for your mother and father from heaven.”
