The waterpolo match between San Giljan Aquatic Sports Club and Birzebbuga Waterpolo Club has been postponed after a player from the St Julian’s team tested positive for Covid-19, The Malta Independent can confirm.

The Aquatic Sports Association of Malta later said that all matches scheduled this week have been postponed until it receives instructions from the health authorities.

This newsroom is informed that the San Giljan player is not part of the first team but could have come in contact with his teammates during training sessions.

This is the first reported case of Coronavirus in waterpolo in Malta.

San Giljan said on their Facebook page that the match has been postponed but did not give the reason why.

This newsroom is informed that a second player, from another team, has also tested positive for the Coronavirus. He is also not a first team player.

The San Giljan-Birzebbuga match was the third on today's programme.

The other two games were held regularly, but the ASA said that all matches scheduled until Monday had been put off.

In these matches Neptunes and Valletta obtained easy victories. For Valletta this was the second victory of the season, while for champions Neptunes this was their sixth successive win.
